How a steel coating job goes

The same four steps on every piece, whatever the size.

Look at the steel

What it is, where it lives and how it fails today: rust, peeling paint, chemical splash, or bare metal that has not been protected yet.

Prepare the surface

Coatings hold or fail on the prep. Rust, mill scale, oil and old paint come off down to clean, profiled metal.

Prime

A primer goes on bare steel to bond to it and slow rust from starting underneath the finish.

Topcoat and cure

A hard, washable topcoat in the color you choose, left to cure fully before the steel goes back to work.

Why send your coating out

Coating takes space, prep time and attention you'd rather spend on fabrication. Handing it off keeps your bays making steel.

  • Frees your floorYour bays stay on cutting and welding.
  • Prepared the same way each timeConsistent prep is what makes the finish consistent.
  • Finished to your colorGive us the color and we'll confirm what can be matched.
  • Looks right at deliveryYour customer sees a finished piece, not a primed one.

Questions about steel coating

Can you coat parts to a customer's color or spec?

Send the color and any spec. We'll confirm what can be matched when we quote.

Do you handle repeat work?

Tell us the quantity and frequency. A repeat job is quoted differently from a one-off.

What prep do fabricated parts need?

Mill scale, weld spatter and oil come off first. The surface is cleaned and primed before the topcoat.

What coating is common for fabricated steel?

An epoxy primer and a urethane topcoat is a common system, chosen for adhesion, protection and finish.

Can you coat large assemblies?

Send dimensions and photos. Size and access decide what is practical.
